SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking
Your team actively manages container cycles instead of chasing missing containers.
GPS Asset Tracking automatically triggers when a container leaves a zone, stays out too long, or needs to be reordered. Your team responds to specific triggers, not assumptions.

SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking used by leading companies

When is GPS the right choice?
GPS Asset Tracking is suitable for mobile assets outdoors, across multiple locations, and with external partners. The trackers communicate autonomously via cellular network and require no infrastructure at the destination. GPS is a good choice where indoor solutions like RTLS or RFID no longer apply.
What makes SmartMakers GPS different?
Traditional GPS trackers last 2 to 5 years and often only locate roughly in large areas on the factory premises. SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking achieves 10 to 15 years of runtime thanks to Edge-Localization and meter-accurate positioning thanks to AI-Enhanced Precision.
GPS Asset Tracking with SmartMakers
Global positioning, long runtime: Asset Tracking without site infrastructure
GPS-based Asset Tracking has long been a compromise between range, accuracy, and battery life. For logistics and production managers who want to keep an eye on their load carriers and production-related assets at all times, SmartMakers has developed a solution that combines global positioning with meter-accurate precision and runtimes over the entire asset lifecycle.
- Meter-accurate positioning down to the parking space
SmartMakers GPS refines the position thanks to AI-Enhanced Precision so that you know in which row and on which parking space your container is located. The foundation to truly find instead of search.
- Edge-Localization for long runtime
Each tracker calculates its position independently and only transmits when necessary. This radically reduces energy consumption and is the basis for runtimes over the entire asset lifecycle.
- Ready to use without infrastructure on site
Mount the tracker on the asset, activate, done. The devices communicate autonomously via cellular network. No Gateways are necessary, no complex cabling or IT connection to supplier or customer sites. Live data from day one, worldwide.
- 10 to 15 years runtime per tracker
The GPS Asset Trackers do not need maintenance over the entire asset usage period because they do not require battery replacement. This makes the solution additionally profitable.

Solutions
How to bring GPS Asset Tracking into your operation
Choose the application area that suits your operation. Each solution includes the appropriate hardware, preconfigured software, and setup for a quick start.

Logistics & Supply Chain
Track load carriers, swap bodies, and containers worldwide live. Losses become rarer, pools become smaller, and cycles become measurable instead of estimated.

Production & Assembly
Parts from galvanizing, painting, and external processing automatically report back as soon as they are back on the factory premises. Assembly and disposition know what is really available.

Customer Service & Field Service
You see the locations, actual usage, and runtime of each device at the customer site in real-time. Forgotten equipment is retrieved instead of written off.

Hospital & Healthcare
High-value devices circulate between locations, branches, and care services. GPS Asset Tracking creates cross-location transparency.

Frequently asked questions about GPS Asset Tracking
The questions that decision-makers frequently ask us in conversations.
GPS Asset Tracking is the continuous, worldwide tracking of large outdoor and mobile assets such as swap bodies, special load carriers, mesh boxes, components at external processors, or service equipment in long-term use. SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking provides position, movement history, and active operating hours if needed. It is used in logistics for container cycles, extended workbenches, and on-site service with equipment pools at customer locations.
SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking differs through two technical decisions: Edge-Localization and AI-Enhanced Positioning. Edge-Localization calculates the position directly on the device and extends the battery life to 10 to 15 years instead of the usual two to five. AI-Enhanced Positioning refines the accuracy to a few meters, instead of just showing the rough area. This turns visibility on the map into an operationally usable tool.
GPS Asset Tracking bridges the gap between ERP status and physical reality. Containers that leave the factory gate disappear from the system today: at suppliers, processors, in transit. The result is lost load carriers, oversized pools, and waiting times during assembly. With GPS tracking, the search time for load carriers is reduced by an average of over 70 percent, and the loss rate approaches zero.
With the help of geofencing, the system automatically detects when a component or load carrier returns to the factory premises. The SAP status immediately flips to "physically on site" before the first manual scan occurs. This is relevant wherever an extended workbench is involved: galvanizing, painting, heat treatment, external processing. This closes the typical blind phase of 12 to 72 hours between actual return and booking in the ERP.
GPS Asset Tracking covers fleet utilization, automatic recovery, audit-proof runtime billing, and shrinkage prevention in on-site service. Trackers with runtime sensors distinguish active use from passive presence at the customer site. If a device stands for 48 hours without operating hours, the system automatically generates a recovery order. Result: 25 to 30 percent higher fleet utilization, almost zero device losses, tamper-proof records against insurance adjusters in case of disputed rental periods.
GPS Asset Tracking accompanies reusable assets in the cycle such as special load carriers, swap bodies, or service equipment. Shipment Monitoring accompanies the shipment on the journey from the factory to the recipient and records the condition of the goods in addition to the position: temperature, humidity, shock, vibration. In other words: GPS Asset Tracking measures where your container is. Shipment Monitoring measures where your shipment is and in what condition it is.
The batteries of the GPS trackers last 10 to 15 years and thus over the typical lifespan of a load carrier. This is made possible by Edge-Localization: The position calculation runs on the device, only relevant movement events are transmitted instead of a continuous GPS stream. Competing products typically achieve two to five years. For rotating containers in the cycle, this is the economic lever that makes the solution scalable.
SmartMakers GPS Asset Tracking integrates into SAP, TMS, disposition, and service management systems via REST-API and direct SAP connection. Geofence events automatically book into the target systems: A tracker reaches the factory premises, the SAP status changes to "on site". No parallel system is created alongside your IT landscape, but a data source that feeds into existing processes. Dispatchers and technicians continue to work in their familiar tools.
The ROI of a GPS Asset Tracking project consists of different levers. Minus 80 percent search time for load carriers, almost zero loss rate, and 25 to 30 percent higher fleet utilization in on-site service. Added to this is the audit-proof runtime billing, which ends deductions by insurance adjusters. The 10 to 15 years battery life further improves profitability because trackers do not need to be replaced every two to five years.
The introduction of GPS Asset Tracking takes less than six weeks for a first productive application. This is made possible by a standardized product with preconfigured geofences, alerts, and SAP connection. A classic integration project with months of development is eliminated. The rollout typically starts with a pilot batch of trackers on defined asset classes and then scales to the full fleet or additional regions.
For GPS Asset Tracking, no own infrastructure is required at partner locations. The trackers send autonomously via cellular network with global roaming. This means the solution works at galvanizing plants, painters, heat treaters, and external warehouses without IT coordination, without network access, and without hardware at the partner. The tracker goes with the component or load carrier and reports the position independently, even across country borders.
